Voltage Meter Indicator
DC Voltage Booster from 8-9volts dc to 16-18volts dc.?
I am a student of aircraft maintenance engineering, diploma level... my team and i were recently asked to build an engine rpm indicator as part of our assignment. we have managed to build the device. however, the power output by the dc motor generator is around 8-9volts no matter what we do... the volt meter we are using to indicate the speed (we will be caliberating that later) has a maximum voltage of 30volts. we would just like to boost the motor generator output to 16-18volts dc. now, is there any circuit which we could build to double the output we are now receiving?
I suppose there is, but it doesn't sound like a very elegant solution to the problem. An instrumentation quality circuit that maintains V(out) = 2 * V(in) linearly for all values of Vin is not a trivial task.
It would be far better to customise your voltmeter for a more appropriate full scale deflection by changing the multiplier resistor.
