Hisashi has a radio controlled plane that is a scale model of a boeing 727. The model has a 2 foot wing span and the wingspan of a boeing 727 is 108 feet. If the minimum flight speed for a boeing 727 is about 165 miles per hour, what is the minimum flight speed for the model plane?
Assuming that minimum flight speed for a plane is directly proportional to wing span, or that the scale model also has the speed to scale, then let M equal the minimum flight speed of the model plane. Then 108/165 = 2/M, so M = 2*165/108 = 165/54 = 55/18 mph, or about 3.06 mph.
