Battery Balance Charger
rc plane battery please help?
i just got my rc plane and it has a starmax rechargeablee lipo battery with a star max balance charger st-edds-ai charger but i can only connect the charger to a battery to charge and i don't want to buy a new battery for each charge how els can i charge it?
It's kinda difficult to tell you the "exact" charger you can buy because you don't give battery specifications like, how many volts? how many Mah? what is the C rating?
a battery has this information: (example)
LiPo Battery 11.1v 20c 1500mah 3s1p
11.1 is the volts of course, 20c is the discharge rate (C) and 1500 is the Mah, don't worry about the 3s1p and the C rating...
all you need to know TO BUY A CHARGER is the Mah and the voltage.
once you find the voltage of the lipo, it can be 7.4 volts, 3.7volts, 11.1 volts, 14.8 volts and so on... then find the Mah of your battery. it can be 500mah, 800mah, 1000mah, 1500mah, 1800mah, 2200mah...
once you find that then do this equation: (let's use this battery as an example)
11.1 volts 1500mah
divide the Mah by 1000
so divide 1500 by 1000
it equals 1.5, that means that the battery can be charged at 1.5 amps
next, you want to FIND a charger with the same voltage and that DOESN'T exceeds the 1.5 amps (in this case using the example batery)
most chargers will charge at 0.8amps as a standard charge but you have to make sure that it doesn't exceed the number you get.
if it was a 500mah battery, then the result is:
500/1000 => 0.5 is 0.5 and if the charger charges at 0.8 you will ruin the battery.
